Sanyan is the name for the early version of Aso Oke derived from the wild raw silk which required that thousands of moth cocoons be collected and their silk yarns carefully unraveled and hand-spun into yarns before the weaving process. This preparation process has now gone into extinction and the Sanyan color as it is known today comes from machine-spun yarns that have been dyed to mimick the original Sanyan derived from the worms.
